Default ranger combo question

So i decided to stray away from mesmer and warrior as my MAIN characters and give my ranger some love....and by love i mean remake completely.

Started in Cantha and used tomes to use volley/splinter shot so far, and its very nice.

SO I know this probably wont be as effective, but, what do you think of the skills point blank shot/zojuns shot and alternating between the 2. It seems like some nice single target damage in one of the most useful primary attributes, so I wouldn't need to spec into anything out of the ordinary.

Well, it is a good damage dealing combo, but I wouldn't use it unless you had something else to take the damage. Like a minion or spirit wall. Or even another tank. But rangers were not meant to be that close, hence their semi-low physical armor. I do use zojun's though, but only when I'm doing AP Discord way, just to kill stuff faster

Its a good spammable combo. Use another skill as an Opener to bring foes to you and then when the fight starts that range is not going to matter that much.

the fact that you have low armor doesn't mean anything, you got 100 Armor against ele damage, and Ranger have excellent stances (Whirling Def + Lightning Reflexes will save you when needed)

besides that, Zojun deals pretty nice dps for a ranger, though it's annoying if your target starts running away since you'll be dragged into your opponents backline rather quickly, dragging your backline into their frontline.

Armor aside (it's not an issue), half range doesn't matter that much at all. Long/recurve bows can fire from outside the aggro bubble, so you've still got some distance if you want/need it.

You think half range means guaranteed death? Ever heard of minions or Warriors/Dervishes/Sins? I fail to see the difference between full range and half range. It may even be easier to survive (as a group, obviously), given the Ranger would be more likely to be attacked if anything got past the minion/melee wall, because it's generally easier to heal/prot something other than yourself.

You could add Glass Arrows and Brutal Weapon while under Lightning Reflexes alternating PB/Zojun. On a 100 armor target I believe it does around 60-70 damage each hit. :3

*Edit*

This thing

So you are contradicting yourself on purpose?

Because with a minion wall (like you suggested) you won't get killed (which you prefer).

No, I was saying that in my first post you will need some sort of wall for survivability...I was just a little wasted last night, so I don't think I really got what the other guy was saying when I quoted him xD
